The Centre for Democracy and Development (CEDED) is an indigenous, non-profit making civil society organization. It was established in 1998 with the purpose of enhancing access to information in South Sudan.
The mission of CEDED is to promote the values of democracy and good governance through participatory approaches. We work towards (our vision) a well informed, empowered, peaceful and self reliant society in South Sudan.
CEDED runs a Community resource centre in Yei River County. We have facilities that can be rented (a training hall and guestrooms) and provide services like a library and computer classes. Income generated via the Resource centre is used for paying local staff, renovations, expanding our services et cetera.
The organization also implements projects and activites when funding is secured. Momentarily a 2 year project on participatory governance and accountability is being implemented. The project is funded by Open Society for East Africa (OSIEA) and focuses on creating awareness on the transitional constitution, establishing transparency and accountability forums and improving networks with other CSO’s. Activites include inter-secondary school debates, dialogues among community members and facilitating Payam development plans.
